About the Course

A “one size fits all” approach to nutrition may not work for everyone. We each have unique variations in our genome, epigenome and microbiome, which interact with our external environment to affect how our bodies respond to dietary intake. Learners will exam the basic principles of nutrition, explore the foundational aspects of personalized nutrition, and analyze the research about the roles of genetics and microbiomes in our personalized nutrition journey. This course is part of the College of ACES suite of online programs, including the graduate-level certificate, "Food Regulations, Nutrition Policy, and Personalized Nutrition" that can be stacked toward an online master's degree. This course offers an excellent foundation in personalized nutrition and explores the various disciplines that contribute to tailoring nutritional recommendations. The interviews with leading scientists in the field of personalized nutrition were particularly valuable. I especially appreciated the practical, evidence-based advice provided by the experts. As a practicing dietitian, I encounter clients who inquire about trending topics in nutrition, often sourced from social media or podcasts. This course has equipped me with up-to-date, scientifically sound information to address these queries effectively. I highly recommend this course to both practicing Registered Dietitians and individuals seeking evidence-based information on personalized nutrition.

I enjoyed this introductory course on personalised nutrition. The quality of the videos is outstanding. The instructors are well-known researchers in the field of precision nutrition. However, for me, this course was a little basic. So, I hope there will be more advanced course on personalized nutrition from the same instructors. Thank you.

When I need a course on a topic not offered by the university, Coursera is one of the best places to go and get the required course. classes are very enjoyable and the material is easy to understand.

All information is readily available elsewhere; there wasn't anything unique about the information in this course. The focus on the non-essential macronutrient, carbohydrate, was disappointing and outdated. There are readily accessible personalized nutrition resources freely available from experts (M.D.s) with real-world CLINICAL experience; the information in this course was from a NON-CLINICAL research-focused perspective which is not particularly helpful to those who want applicable, actionable take-aways. Overall, this was a disappointing investment of time.
